Prevention Methods

Starling net to a stadium.

Controlling birds can be a tricky task and may not be as simple as applying a few spikes to a choosen area as you have to consider not only pressure of the 'pest' bird but also future displacement of the method installed.

Generally the most popular methods of control are the use of netting and spikes as they offer a physical barrier to an area and with professional installation can remain effective for several years. Other methods are available as listed below, each one being suitable for different situations. To understand what would be the most effective method to solve your bird problem please contact us to discuss this or to arrange a free survey.

To understand the differing pressures of birds please read as follows:

Heavy Pressure :

The bird is nesting or roosting at this site and there is generally a food or water source nearby. Heavy pressure sites can only be successfully proofed using well-installed bird netting or weld mesh systems. Where netting cannot be installed spike systems may be successful but some persistent resident birds might need to be culled.

Medium Pressure :

This is not a nesting or roosting site but it most likely an area for food or afternoon resting. Medium pressure sites can be successfully proofed with many systems, but great care needs to be taken. Birdwire systems should only be applied with appropriate techniques by experienced installers. Bird spike systems can be used but care must be taken to ensure there are no gaps and the birds should be prevented from getting on the system before the glue has cured. If possible, net should be used.

Light Pressure :

Birds will stop here briefly during the day as there is no food or shelter available. Light pressure areas can be successfully proofed with virtually any type of physical proofing system suitable for the species concerned.
